Whiplash

Every year, between 30,000 and 50,000 persons experience whiplash complaints as a result of a traffic accident.

Whiplash, and the associated complaints, can occur if your head makes a sudden movement forward, backward or sideways in relation to your torso. This rapid movement can damage the vertebrae in your neck and throat and your brain can be shaken. Most whiplash complaints occur after a rear-end collision or after a side collision. Whiplash complaints can occur in a collision at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, but there are also indications that they can occur even at a lower speed.

Complaints

Up to three months after your accident, we can call your complaints acute. If your complaints have not disappeared after three months or more, you complaints are referred to as chronic complaints.

Every victim experiences different whiplash complaints. Some common complaints are:

  • Neck pain;

  • Stiff neck;

  • Headache;

  • Fatigue;

  • Concentration and memory disorders;

  • Pain in the jaw, shoulder, arm or hand;

  • Anxious, depressed or insecure feelings;

  • Complaints when swallowing;

  • Sensitivity to weather changes;

  • Skin complaints;

  • Eye complaints.

A whiplash is therefore often caused by someone else, for example by a rear-end collision in a traffic accident. Then compensation can be claimed from the (liable) counterparty.

Amount of compensation

There are no fixed amounts for the reimbursement of whiplash complaints. The compensation varies between €1,000 and €50,000. In addition, income damage is an important cost item, which can vary greatly from person to person. â–
